Poker Hand Ranking
All Poker games use a customary 52 card deck. The four different suits carry no advantage over each other and are equal in weight. The following are the official poker hand rankings in descending order. We have included the probability of being dealt each hand in brackets. Royal Flush
The best hand in Poker - comprising of Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten
of the same suit. Straight Flush
Five cards in consecutive numerical order and all the same suit. The
higher the numerical value of cards the better the hand. (72,000-1)
Four of a kind
Four cards of the same rank, for example four Queens Full house
A combination of a pair of cards of the same rank and three cards of
the same rank. The Three of a Kind counts first, so a Full House of Tens
full of Fives (10,10,10 + 5,5) beats a Full House of Fives full of Tens
(5,5,5 + 10,10) Flush
Five cards of the same suit, for example five spades
Five cards in consecutive numerical order, but of mixed suit. An ace
can be used as both a high and low card. Three of a Kind
Three of a Kind consists of three cards of the same rank. Two Pairs
Two sets of cards of the same rank. When comparing hands with two
pairs, the hand with the highest pair wins A Pair
This hand is simply a pair of cards of the same rank, for example two
Twos. If the pairs are equal, compare the highest ranking odd cards from
each hand High Card
In the absence of any of the above hands, the highest card held by a player wins the hand. The highest card is an Ace
